The Lost Blogs: 4 -The Big Asia Trip – ‘Foreword’

Across the span of two weeks in October and November in 2011, I jumped on and off a lot of planes – eight in total. When I looked at my excel spreadsheet itinerary (oh yes I did), my first reaction was man alive that’s gonna be exhausting but my second was and hell yes I’m going to enjoy every moment of it.

Boo-ya.

I can’t really explain how uber-excited I was towards the end of October knowing I had my big two-weeker holiday coming up. I always deliberately choose to stage my annual holiday to the East around this time because:
a) Most people with families are done with their summer holidays and are miserable
b) The weather turns dark and cold which is miserable
c) Its the long stretch between Summer and Christmas where nothing happens. Miserable.

Genius, in my personal opinion, and the holiday itself didn’t disappoint. It was without a doubt, the absolute highlight of my year and whereby on past occasions I’ve ambled back to my familiar flat from the airport, travel weary but somewhat glad to be home, on this occasion I was distinctly, totally not. I was utterly dismayed, by both the end of an epic trip, and the start of the single-longest-period-of-time-before-i-could-repeat-another-similar-trip.

Even dwelling on that feeling now, I’m still a little depressed, so I better dwell on the two weeks prior to that crappiness.  Along with good ole favourites Singapore and Hong Kong, the two new destinations I visited were Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Hanoi/Halong Bay in Vietnam.  Now Siem Reap was pretty awesome for me, and its going to take me ages to write a semi-decent blog that would do my experience of it justice (I have noted that merely showing people photos of Angkor Wat doesn’t really bring across the beauty and immensity of the place so I need to accompany them with proper commentary)  – so i’m going to park that for now and attempt Vietnam first instead..

*End of Lost Blog post – oh, how many memories went undocumented off the back of this trip 😦  *
