Return to Sender

Twelve Songs (for the Netherlands)

Stop all the clogs, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the cheese from maturing in this dutch home,

Silence the whirr of the windmills and with muffled drum
Bring out the stroopwafels, let the cake lovers come.

She was my North, my South, my East and West,
My studying hour and my six and a half day rest,

My bread, my ham, my pate, my philadelphia extra light;
I thought this experience would end, I was right.

The bicycle is not wanted now: put away every one
Pack up my bags for the journey is done;

Put away my door key and sweep up the trodden uni path.

My journey started and shall end again in Bath.
