“And time..goes by..so slowly..” oh bollucks to that
Its been almost four months already since I first set foot in that queer flat land they call the Netherlands. How many times have I blogged since then? Admittedly, not much. Because I’ve actually been rather busy and blogging wasnt really one of my priorities. Actually, this should be the busiest part of my stay what with exams and all, and yet I’m blogging now. Like Kate Fox said in her book, Watching the English, I guess i’m just a typical hypocritical English person. Ah well.
I’m in Bristol right now, having just had an assessment day with Barclays yesterday. I think it went kinda crap. But hey at least i got the experience of knowing im crap at assessments. I’m sticking around til Sat, as I’ve a couple of tests with Mercer Consulting on Friday. At least i get to see Bath at Xmas one more time – it might just be subjective affection for what i see as my 2nd home to Torquay, but i think its pretty special especially when the Xmas market is in town. I’ll snap some pics and load them here to give u an idea.
I am also attempting to revise for my exam on Monday, but i did 4 days worth last time round and that turned out ok in the end so really, i’m starting early this time 🙂 I remember me panicking last year about how I would have to lock myself in my room 24/7 and study like my life depended on it in the final year, because of the 60% grade influence on my overall degree.
And now i’m here what are my thoughts? meh.
In a sudden overwhelming urge to see more of Holland before i call it quits, decided to visit some cities. It was all a bit vague whether it would be Amsterdam, Maastricht, Delft, Bruges or Utrecht or whatever, but due to time, convenience and money, we settled on Delft and Utrecht:
Delft – a nice, quaint and small city famous for its porcelain. Only 15 minutes from Rotterdam so worth the visit. Has a nice market, normal cheap dutch stuff. Absolutely freezing when we got there though, dammit. Wouldnt be bad to live here. hmm.
Utrecht – bigger than Delft, Utrecht itself is a province but we went to its capital city where theres a big university where exchange students like myself linger. Its very similar to Amsterdam and the shopping doesnt seem too bad either. One thing you think about holland is, once u see one city they all appear to look the same, save for small, small differences.
Time in the lowlands is coming to an end – i guess i won’t miss the place much itself, though of course I’ll always hold some sort of affection for it, having spent a significant four months there. Most of all, I will miss the people I have met – funny and hilarious, bright and intelligent, from the other side of the universe. I don’t regret for one second coming here. But thats the deal – you meet people everywhere and they could be arseholes or they could be amazing – but either way you toddle your way through life meeting and greeting. But i have a theory that who you are exactly is defined and quantified by your friends – who they are and why it is they exactly like you. Just make sure you don’t forget these amazing people cos they reaffirm your beliefs in friendship and trust, when the going gets tough and you forget who you are, and why you’re actually not that bad a person.
I’ll be blogging to the end – stay with me 🙂
